Broken Teeth

We understand how uncomfortable and embarrassing it can be to have a broken tooth. At Smile for Life Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we strive to make your experience with us as comfortable and relaxing as possible. We know that the thought of having a broken tooth fixed may be daunting, so allow us to take this opportunity to provide you with some insight about what comes next.

When visiting our office, we will first conduct an examination to determine the extent of the damage on the affected tooth. Depending upon this assessment, there are various treatment options available:

  • Bonding - This option is ideal for teeth where only minimal repair is needed. Bonding involves adding composite resin material (tooth-colored fillings) onto the tooth, and shaping it to the desired design. The composite resin is then hardened with an ultraviolet light or laser.
  • Crowns - This procedure involves placing a cap on the affected tooth to restore the natural contours and protect it from further damage. Smile For Life is able to offer same-day crowns in a single visit using our Cerec technology.
  • Root Canal Treatment - This process is used to save teeth that have been severely damaged or decayed. It involves removing the infected or exposed nerve inside of the tooth and filling it with a material that prevents bacteria from entering. The broken portion of the tooth may also require a crown to be placed above the gums, but this preserves the natural root.
  • Implants - If you have a severely broken tooth due to trauma or infection that cannot be saved, implants may be an option for you. An implant replaces not only the portion of the tooth visible above the gums, but a titanium post is inserted where the root was removed. This is the most ideal tooth replacement option, as it preserves bone, and it looks and feels most like a natural tooth. Our doctors are experienced in both surgical and restorative implant dentistry, and are pleased to offer immediate dental implants when the conditions are appropriate.

No matter what option you choose, we will be there to guide you every step of the way. Our goal is to ensure that your smile stays healthy and happy for years to come.
